Functional Endrocrinology

I’ve had a career-long fascination with the endocrine system.  My son, Joshua, had a rare endocrine disorder called hypoparathyroidism.  He lacked parathyroid hormone from birth on and I learned first-hand the importance of the endocrine system in overall health and wellness.  The toll an endocrine imbalance takes on the whole system is severe.

What became obvious to me early on was that western medicine was seriously lacking in knowledge about and interest in functional endocrinology.  Their focus was entirely on endocrine pathology.   Endocrine pathology is relatively rare.  Functional endocrine issues are common, poorly understood, and often overlooked as a cause of symptoms and illness.   As a mother and as a doctor, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of expertise in this area.

In 2009, I started studying with Janet Lang, D.C. and her seminar series on Restorative Endocrinology.  Dr. Lang has put together a remarkable body of work on the endocrine system.  This system utilizes salivary hormone tests through Diagnos-Techs Laboratories in Kent, WA and hair analysis through Analytical Research Labs in Phoenix, AZ to evaluate the individualized hormonal and metabolic patterns of a patient.   I have found good correlation between these specific labs and their testing methods, applying recommended nutritional protocols and lifestyle changes, and clinical improvement in a patient’s health.

After many years of longing to deeply understand dysfunction and then know how to correct, rebalance and restore endocrine function, I felt I’d come home.
